Adad Gate

Reconstructed gate of ancient Nineveh, part of the archaeological landscape outside Mosul.

Adad Gate belongs to the ancient walls of Nineveh, the Assyrian capital whose remains lie on the east side of Mosul. Even fragmentary and reconstructed, the gates give physical form to a city that is otherwise often encountered through museum objects and ancient texts.

Conditions around Mosul's heritage sites have changed repeatedly because of conflict and reconstruction. Travellers should seek current local guidance, but the gate remains a significant archaeological marker when access is possible.
