Isui-en is a traditional Japanese garden near Nara Park, close to Todai-ji and the Nara National Museum. Its ponds, stepping stones, clipped plantings, and borrowed views make it one of the calmest stops in central Nara.
It works well as a pause between the big temple sights. The garden is carefully composed, so take it slowly rather than treating it as a shortcut through the park.
