Bunmeido was founded in Nagasaki in 1900 and is now the country's biggest castella maker, with branches across Japan. The original shop is near Nagasaki Station, and the cake here is a touch sweeter and moister than Fukusaya's — a more dessert-like version of the Portuguese-derived sponge. Beautifully boxed and an obligatory souvenir if you have someone at home to take it to.
