The municipal art museum, a few minutes' walk south of the central shopping arcade, holds a focused collection of three things: post-war Japanese contemporary art, twentieth-century European prints and paintings, and traditional Kagawa lacquerware. The lacquer collection is the standout — a craft that the prefecture has been famous for since the seventeenth century.
The building, completed in 1988, is austere modern concrete. Changing exhibitions in the basement gallery often run with a strong programme of contemporary Japanese artists. Closed Mondays.
