An American-made M42 Duster — a Cold-War-era self-propelled anti-aircraft gun — sits upright on the sand in 7 metres of water off the Marine Park coast, deliberately sunk by the Jordanian armed forces in 1999 as a dive attraction and artificial reef. The tank is intact: turret, twin barrels, and tracks are all in place; the hull has been encrusted with hard corals and small fish over the years.
The site is shallow enough for snorkellers to enjoy and is one of the easier wreck experiences in Aqaba — perfect for less-experienced divers and a popular stop on the boat-dive circuits. Most operators on the Marine Park beach can include it on a multi-site day trip. The nearby underwater military museum (a collection of similarly sunk armaments) makes for an unusual combined dive.
