Abu Hassan

Abu Hassan is the no-frills foul and hummus joint that has been feeding Beirut's bus drivers, shopkeepers and the occasional politician since the 1960s. Fava beans, chickpeas, eggs, pickles, raw onion, a stack of bread — that is most of the menu, and it is all that is needed.

Open from dawn through to mid-afternoon. Service is brisk and seating is communal. Come for breakfast before exploring the city; you will not need to eat again until evening.
