The beaches near Kuching are on the Damai Peninsula, about 35 km north of the city. Damai Beach is the main resort beach, backed by several large hotels. Santubong Beach, nearby, is quieter and less developed, with views of Gunung Santubong. The peninsula itself is worth visiting for the mountain — a challenging hike with rope ladders to the summit and a cool waterfall at the base.
