Bako National Park is the essential day trip: take a bus or taxi to Kampung Bako, then a short boat to the park. Proboscis monkeys, bearded pigs, and multiple forest types in a compact area. Kubah National Park, 20 km west, has good forest trails, waterfalls, and the Matang Wildlife Centre with an open-air enclosure for Sarawak's wildlife. Gunung Gading National Park, further west, is the most reliable place in Sarawak to see the giant rafflesia flower in bloom; check with the park before going as blooms are unpredictable. Annah Rais longhouse (65 km south) can be combined with a visit to other Bidayuh communities in the area.
