Getting There

Kuching International Airport is well connected by AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines, and other carriers to Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, and other Malaysian cities, as well as Singapore. The airport is about 10 km south of the city centre; taxis and ride-hailing apps cover the journey in 20 minutes. Overland travel from Peninsular Malaysia or Sabah requires flying, as no road crosses between Brunei and Sarawak.

Getting around Kuching is straightforward. The historic centre is compact and walkable. Taxis are metered and cheap by regional standards. Grab (ride-hailing) works well. For day trips to Bako and the nearby national parks, local buses run to Damai and the Bako village junction; for other parks, renting a car or taking a tour is more practical.
