Things to Do

Bagh's main draw is its mountain scenery. The surrounding forested hills offer a respite from the heat of the plains, and the hill station of Sudhan Gali — perched above 2,700 metres — is the centrepiece. Tourism infrastructure is minimal: this is not a place set up for visitors, but the quiet, unhurried atmosphere and cool highland air have their own appeal.

The 2005 Kashmir earthquake struck this region hard, and reconstruction has been gradual. Some older traditional Kashmiri architecture survives in the valleys, alongside apple orchards and terraced fields. The bazaar in Bagh town is compact and lively, a good place to see everyday Kashmiri life.
