Hassan Abdal is a quiet historical town 50 km west of Rawalpindi, worth a stop on the road to Peshawar or Abbottabad.
The town's most famous landmark is the Gurdwara Panja Sahib, one of the holiest Sikh shrines, drawing pilgrims from around the world twice a year. Nearby stand two Mughal-era structures: Muqbara Hakeeman and the so-called tomb of Lala Rukh, located just opposite the Gurdwara.
On the hill above town — at 714 metres — is a meditation chamber associated with the 15th-century Muslim saint Baba Wali Qandhari, after whom the town is named. Climb the hill for a panoramic view over Hassan Abdal.
