The Beitou Museum occupies the Kazan, a large two-storey wooden building of 1921 that was once the most luxurious hot-spring inn in Beitou — and, during the war, a rest house for kamikaze pilots. Set high on the hillside above the resort, it now displays Taiwanese folk art, indigenous artefacts and Japanese-era ceramics across its tatami halls, including one of the largest tatami rooms in Taiwan.
The building, gardens and valley views are as much the draw as the collection, and there is a tea house and restaurant on site. A short uphill walk or taxi from the main Beitou Park area.
