The Plum Garden (Meiting) is a small two-storey villa built in the 1930s as a Japanese-era summer house, later the residence of Yu Youren, the celebrated calligrapher and senior Nationalist statesman. Restored and opened to the public, it is a fine surviving example of a Japanese wooden house, with tatami rooms, a viewing verandah and a basement air-raid shelter.
It sits on the slope above Beitou Park on the way up to the Thermal Valley, and usually displays reproductions of Yu Youren's calligraphy. Free; a worthwhile short stop on the hot-spring walk.
