Hutoushan (虎頭山) — Tiger Head Mountain — is the hill park at the center of Taoyuan city, offering a network of walking trails through subtropical forest, several temple complexes, and views over the urban spread below. The main temple on the hill is dedicated to Guanyin, and the surrounding area has a peaceful atmosphere unusual for a city park this close to a major urban center.
The trails range from easy paved paths to steeper forested routes that pass small shrines and banyan trees. Early morning is the best time to visit, when Taoyuan residents come for their morning walks and the air hasn't yet thickened with traffic. The park is easily reached on foot from the city center and is free.
