Longtan (龍潭) is a district south of Taoyuan city centred on a small lake that has become one of the area's most photographed spots. A traditional multi-storey pavilion rises from the lake, and the surrounding park is pleasant for a walk, especially early in the morning when the water is still.
The town also has a surprisingly strong hakka cultural presence — this part of Taoyuan has a large Hakka community, and Longtan hosts one of Taiwan's major Hakka cultural festivals each year. The smaller temples and old farm houses in the surrounding hills are worth exploring if you have transport.
