Ankara has a strong café and restaurant culture, particularly in the Kızılay, Çankaya, and Tunalı Hilmi neighbourhoods. As a landlocked capital, it leans toward meat rather than fish — kebab, döner, and köfte are all excellent. The city also has a good selection of meyhane (tavern-style restaurants with raki and meze) in the Ulus and Çankaya areas.
