Bursa Cable Car (Teleferik)

The Bursa Teleferik runs from Teferrüç, on the eastern edge of the city, up the flank of Uludag to the ski resort area at around 1,880 metres. The views on the way up — over Bursa's sprawl, across the Marmara plain, and on clear days to Istanbul and the islands — are worth the ride even if you have no interest in skiing or hiking.

In winter (roughly December to March), the cable car serves Turkey's most popular ski resort, with a decent range of runs for all levels. In summer, the mountain is cool and green — a complete contrast to the hot city below — and there are marked hiking trails of varying difficulty across the plateau. The journey takes about 20 minutes each way. Bring a warm layer even in summer; the temperature at the top is often 10°C cooler than the city.

A story
The first cable car on this route opened in 1963 and was the longest in Turkey at the time. The current system, rebuilt in 2014, runs in two sections: the lower section from Teferrüç to Kadıyayla (1,635 metres), and an upper section continuing to the ski resort at 1,880 metres. On clear winter days you can see Istanbul across the Marmara Sea from the top.
