Every Turkish city has a focal square and Denizli's is Bayramyeri, where the avenues from the bus station, the old bazaar, and the modern shopping streets all meet. The central feature is a large bronze sculpture of a rooster — Denizli horozu, the long-crowing breed for which the city is famous and which appears on the municipal emblem. Locals like to mention that the Denizli rooster's crow can last more than 20 seconds; you will probably not hear one in the centre of town, but you may well hear roosters elsewhere in the region.
The square is the easiest meeting point in town, and the surrounding streets are full of pide salons, bakeries, mobile phone shops, and the kind of cheerful provincial bustle that makes a stop here pleasant.
