Colossae is not a polished archaeological park, and that is part of its fascination. The ancient city lies in mounds and scattered remains near Honaz, close to Denizli, with far less visible masonry than nearby Laodicea or Hierapolis but a name that echoes through early Christian history.
Go with modest expectations and a sense of context. The site is best for travellers who like unfinished places: a landscape of buried history, river valley views, and the odd thrill of standing where a famous city has mostly slipped back under the fields.
