Al Bahr Towers

The twin 25-storey towers of the Abu Dhabi Investment Council, on the eastern Corniche, wrapped in a kinetic shading system inspired by the mashrabiya lattice screens of traditional Arab architecture. Around 2,000 umbrella-like panels open and close in response to the sun's position, cutting solar gain by more than half.

The towers are private offices; the interest is the facade and the engineering. Photogenic in late afternoon as the panels close to the west and at night when they relax open. Easily seen from the eastern Corniche or the Sheikh Khalifa bridge approach.
