Phuc Kien Assembly Hall

ornate Fujian Chinese hall dedicated to the sea goddess

The largest and most elaborate of Hoi An's Chinese assembly halls, built by the Fujian Chinese community in 1697. The ornate entrance gate, courtyards, and main hall dedicated to the sea goddess Thien Hau are rich with coloured ceramics and gilded wood. Still an active place of worship.

A story
The hall was founded in 1697 by Fujianese immigrants and dedicated to Thien Hau, goddess of the sea. Sailors and traders prayed here before voyages across the South China Sea, and offerings are still made today.
