Griffith is the Riverina at full scale: irrigation channels, flat farmland, wineries with national labels, and a town centre shaped by Italian migration. It was planned by Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin, but it feels less like a design exercise than a working food-and-wine city in the middle of dry country.
The best day mixes the human story with the landscape. Start at Pioneer Park Museum, walk the stone shelters of Hermit's Cave, then drive out to cellar doors or the sandstone gullies of Cocoparra National Park. Griffith's Italian food is not a garnish to the trip; it is one of the things that makes the city itself.
Distances are broad and public transport will not help much with the best stops. Bring or hire a car, and plan around heat in summer.
