Australia and Pacific > Australia > New South Wales > Junee
Junee is a small Riverina town that makes most sense if you like country railway history and slightly odd stops. It grew where the old New South Wales rail lines crossed, and that still gives the place its identity: broad streets, pubs, a handsome station, and one of the best railway museums in regional Australia.
The Roundhouse Museum is the serious anchor, with locomotives and carriages in a working railway setting rather than a sterile display hall. The Licorice and Chocolate Factory, in an old flour mill, adds a lighter reason to stop, especially if you are travelling with children or have no shame about buying more sweets than planned.
Junee is not a grand destination, and it should not pretend to be one. But if you are in the Riverina or breaking the Sydney-Melbourne inland drive, it has enough character for a satisfying spare day: trains, brick mills, a compact main street, and a wetland boardwalk close to town.
