The Walpa Gorge walk is a 2.6 km return path between the two highest domes of Kata Tjuta, following a seasonal stream-bed up to a small viewing platform. The walls rise more than 200 metres on either side, and even on hot days the gorge stays surprisingly cool.
It is the shorter of the two Kata Tjuta walks and stays open at higher temperatures than the Valley of the Winds. Wildlife — black-footed rock-wallabies, mulga parrots, the occasional perentie lizard — is most visible early and late.
