The park's two great sights are Uluru itself, the single sandstone monolith that rises 348 metres out of the desert plain, and Kata Tjuta, the cluster of 36 red rock domes 36 km to the west. Both are best appreciated on foot — the rangers can recommend walks to suit the season and the heat. Beyond the rocks, the park is a serious place to learn about Anangu culture: rock art sites, the cultural centre, and free ranger-led walks all take you closer to a landscape that has been continuously inhabited and managed for tens of thousands of years.
