Mapleton Falls National Park is a compact Sunshine Coast hinterland stop with a view that feels much larger than the park itself. From the lookout, Pencil Creek drops into a steep, forested gorge, with the Blackall Range rolling away beyond the trees. It is a useful counterbalance to the coast: cooler air, wet forest, and the sense that the plateau suddenly falls out from under you.
Most visitors come for the lookout and the short forest walk rather than a long hike. The paths are easy, but the best reason to linger is the change in atmosphere after the beach towns: rainforest birds, damp shade, and cloud drifting across the escarpment on unsettled days. Combine it with Montville or Kondalilla Falls if you are spending a day in the hinterland.
