Edithburgh

Yorke Peninsula fishing town with one of South Australia's best shore dives just off its jetty

Edithburgh sits on the south-eastern tip of Yorke Peninsula, looking across Gulf St Vincent toward Adelaide but feeling much farther away than the map suggests. It began as a working port for grain, salt, and gypsum; today the town is small, quiet, and most interesting where land and water meet.

The reason to come is the coast. Edithburgh Jetty is one of South Australia's great easy-access dive and snorkel sites, with pylons covered in temperate marine life and the chance of seeing leafy seadragons. North of town, the Edithburgh Museum explains the port years; offshore, Troubridge Island is a low sand island with a cast-iron lighthouse and nesting seabirds.

This is not a polished resort town. Come for a slow coastal day: swim at the tidal pool, walk the mosaic trail toward Sultana Point, watch the wind turbines turning inland, and let the weather decide how ambitious you feel.
