Falls Creek

Victorian Alps ski village with snow-gum slopes, cross-country trails, and summer high-country walks.

Falls Creek is a purpose-built alpine village in northeast Victoria, surrounded by Alpine National Park and perched high enough for real winter weather. It is one of Australia's major ski resorts, but the setting saves it from feeling like only a lift-and-lodge strip: snow gums, open high plains, and Rocky Valley Reservoir sit right beside the village.

Winter is the obvious season. The downhill area has broad beginner and intermediate terrain, while the cross-country trails around Windy Corner give a quieter way into the Bogong High Plains. In summer the same country opens for walking, mountain biking, road cycling, and cool-air escapes from the valleys below.

Falls Creek is not a casual cheap day out. Winter access rules, parking, snow chains, and mountain weather all need planning. But if you are already in the Victorian High Country and want a full alpine day, it has more than enough to justify the climb from Mount Beauty.
