Noojee is a tiny Gippsland town on the road toward Mount Baw Baw, wrapped in wet forest, fern gullies, and old timber-country history. It is too small to pretend to be a full resort town, and that is part of the appeal.
The reason to come is the landscape close by. The Noojee Trestle Bridge is the obvious landmark, a tall timber railway bridge in the forest, while Toorongo Falls gives you an easy waterfall walk through damp mountain country.
Noojee works well as a slow day from Melbourne or a break on the way into the high country. Add the Ada Tree if you want the day to feel properly ancient: one enormous mountain ash can do that.
