The Christchurch Gondola climbs from the Heathcote Valley to the Port Hills, opening wide views over Christchurch, the Canterbury Plains, Lyttelton Harbour, and on clear days the Southern Alps. It is one of the easiest ways to understand the geography that frames the city.
At the top, short walks and viewpoints make the ride more than a quick photo stop. Go in clear weather if you can, and consider combining it with Lyttelton or the Summit Road for a fuller Port Hills day.
