Mangere Mountain is an extinct volcanic cone above the Manukau Harbour and one of Auckland's important Maori heritage landscapes. The slopes and summit preserve traces of former pa earthworks, while the crater and harbour views make the walk rewarding even for visitors without much time.
It is a good South Auckland alternative to the better-known central volcanoes, with open views across the harbour, airport side of the city, and surrounding suburbs.
