The Wairarapa's main draws are wine (Martinborough), the wild southern coast (Cape Palliser), and the Victorian townscape of Greytown. Add the wetlands of Lake Wairarapa for birdwatching and the Putangirua Pinnacles for geology and Lord of the Rings atmosphere. The region is compact enough to cover in a weekend from Wellington.
