Altes Presshaus

Grinzing's oldest Heuriger, in a 1527 wine-press house

Address Cobenzlgasse 15, Grinzing

The oldest surviving Heuriger in Grinzing, occupying a wine-press house dating from 1527, with a low, beamed interior that still holds the great timber press and a vine-covered garden behind. The age shows in the woodwork and the atmosphere, making it the most characterful of the village's larger taverns.

The wine is local and the buffet runs to the usual roast pork, Liptauer and Schmalzbrot, with live music on many evenings. It draws its share of tour groups, but the historic rooms give it a depth the newer places lack. A good choice if you want the Grinzing experience with a sense of where it comes from.
