Strandbad (Municipal Lido)

The town's public swimming beach with lawns, diving boards and boat hire

The Strandbad is Zell am See's public lido on the southern edge of the lake, open from June to September. It is a proper alpine beach: clean gravel and grass, diving boards of several heights, a shallow paddling area for children, and a café serving refreshments. Pedal boats and rowing boats can be hired from the jetty.

In good summer weather the Strandbad gets busy, particularly on weekends, but the atmosphere is relaxed and very local. Entry costs a few euros; a summer day pass is good value. The water temperature reaches around 22°C in July and August — cold by Mediterranean standards, bracing by Austrian ones, and entirely swimmable.
