Eating Out

Zell am See has a good range of restaurants for a small Alpine town. Austrian standards dominate — Wiener Schnitzel, Tafelspitz, Käsespätzle (cheese noodles), and hearty soups — alongside Italian restaurants and pizza places. The old town centre and the streets around the Kirchgasse have the best concentration. Après-ski food — loaded fries, bratwurst, goulash — is available at mountain huts on the Schmittenhöhe.

For a sit-down Austrian meal, Steinerwirt in the town centre is well-established and popular with both locals and visitors. The Lohninghof Cafe, across the lake, occupies a 500-year-old farmhouse and serves Austrian food in traditional surroundings.
