Khanlig Mukhtar Caravanserai

The Khanlig Mukhtar caravanserai sits in the middle of the old commercial quarter and is one of the few surviving examples of nineteenth-century Karabakh commercial architecture. The two-storey stone building is built around a central courtyard, with arched merchant cells lining all four sides — ground-floor stores and stables below, sleeping rooms above.

Caravans coming up from the lowlands would stop here for the night before heading on through the mountain passes to Armenia and Iran. The building has been restored and now houses a craft market and exhibition spaces.
