When to Go

Spring (April–June) is the best time to visit. The orchards are in blossom, the mulberry trees are leafing out, and the Zangezur peaks above the town still carry snow while the valley floor is mild and green. Daytime temperatures are comfortable for walking, and the light is good for photography.

Summer (July–August) brings heat — Ordubad sits in a sheltered valley and temperatures regularly exceed 35°C. The apricot harvest in July is worth timing your visit for if you can tolerate the heat; roadside stalls sell fresh and dried fruit. Carry water and plan sightseeing for the early morning.

Autumn (September–October) is the pomegranate season, for which Ordubad is famous across Azerbaijan. The harvest runs roughly September to November, and local markets sell the fruit cheaply. Temperatures are pleasant again, the light is warm, and the orchards are at their most productive. This is arguably the most rewarding time to come.

Winter (November–March) is cold, with occasional snow at town level and reliable snow on the high passes. The Ordubad National Park becomes difficult to access. The town quiets considerably. Not a bad time to see the mosques and museum without crowds, but the landscape loses much of its appeal.
