Ordubad follows the Nakhchivan norm: no alcohol is sold publicly in this conservative Muslim region, and you will not find bars in the conventional sense. What you will find are teahouses — çayxana — where men gather for tea, backgammon, and conversation. These are genuine social institutions, not tourist-facing operations. Strong black tea is served in small armudu (pear-shaped) glasses with sugar on the side; pomegranate juice and ayran (a cold yoghurt drink) are the other staples. Small cafes near the bazaar sell pastries and simits in the morning.
