Slatine

Slatine sits on the northeast tip of Čiovo, the part of the island closest to Split. It is the most connected village on Čiovo: the Jadrolinija catamaran from Split docks here, making it possible to reach the island in around thirty minutes without a car. That link makes Slatine feel slightly more cosmopolitan than the island's other settlements, with a small marina and a handful of waterfront cafes that serve commuters as much as tourists.

The beach near the catamaran dock is a pleasant pebbly strip with calm, sheltered water — good for a swim while waiting for a boat. The north-facing location means the water on this side of the island is slightly cooler than the south coast, but in summer that is rarely a problem.

Slatine is a useful entry point if you are visiting the Trogir area without a car, or leaving Čiovo for Split in the afternoon. The catamaran runs several times a day in summer, less frequently in winter — always check the Jadrolinija schedule before relying on it.

A story
The catamaran service from Split to Slatine was established partly as a way to relieve summer traffic on the coastal road to Trogir — during peak season, the road through Kaštela can slow to a crawl, and arriving by sea cuts the journey to thirty minutes.
