The Muzej za umjetnost i obrt is the kind of decorative arts museum every Central European capital used to have: rooms of period furniture, glass, ceramics, textiles, clocks, and silver, organised chronologically from Gothic and Renaissance through to Art Nouveau and Art Deco. It is housed in a fine 1880s building by Hermann Bollé (also responsible for the cathedral restoration and Mirogoj cemetery), and it has been a museum since the start.
The strongest sections are the Baroque rooms, the 19th-century Croatian decorative arts (look for the work of Slavonian potters and Istrian glassmakers), and the small but excellent collection of European 20th-century design, including pieces by the Bauhaus and the Wiener Werkstätte. Closed Mondays.
