Church of Saint Michael

Triple-domed Baroque church on a small rise above the old town

The triple-domed Baroque silhouette of Saint Michael's, perched on a low rise behind Horní náměstí, is one of the most recognisable views in Olomouc. The current building was completed in 1707 to a design by the Italian architect Giovanni Pietro Tencalla, replacing an earlier Dominican monastery destroyed by fire.

The interior is high Baroque — gilded altars, stucco, and a vast fresco filling the central dome. The crypt below holds the relics of several Moravian saints. Climb up to the small viewing terrace above for a quiet view over the cathedral and the surrounding rooftops.
