Špindlerův Mlýn

Czech mountain resort in Krkonoše National Park, known for skiing, hiking, and subalpine scenery

Špindlerův Mlýn is the largest ski resort in the Czech Republic, located in the Krkonoše National Park (Giant Mountains) in northeastern Bohemia, close to the Polish border. The area is a national park, and the landscape is rewarding even outside the ski season — excellent hiking in summer, cross-country skiing in winter, and one of Central Europe's finest subalpine environments year-round.

The downhill skiing is modest by Alpine standards — runs are mostly suited to beginners and intermediate skiers — but the resort is well equipped and popular with Czech and German visitors. The ski season typically runs from December through March depending on snowfall.

In summer, the town is a base for hiking in the Krkonoše. Pančava Waterfall, the highest in the Czech Republic at 148 metres, is reachable on foot from the resort. The highest Czech peak, Sněžka (1,603 m), is reachable by cable car from nearby Pec pod Sněžkou, or on foot via the ridge trail for fit walkers.
