Things to Do

The Krudttårnet (Powder Tower) on Østre Strandvej is a 1686 fortification associated with the naval hero Peter Tordenskiold and now houses period artillery and harbour history exhibitions. The Fiskerklyngen quarter preserves the oldest fishermen's cottages in town. Bangsbo Museum south of the centre includes a restored Viking-era warship and a WWII German bunker. Palm Beach is the main beach for swimming. The tourist office lends free bicycles for exploring the nine marked bike trails around the town. Skagen, 35 km north, is worth a day trip for its dunes, artists' quarter, and the point where the North Sea and Baltic meet.
