The Otaniemi campus of Aalto University was masterplanned by Alvar Aalto in the 1950s and is one of his most coherent built works. The main building, with its iconic stepped brick auditorium and angled copper roof, served as the Helsinki University of Technology and is now part of Aalto. Other landmarks include Aalto's sauna building, the angular library building (originally by Heikki and Kaija Sirén), and the steel-and-glass undergraduate centre that won the Mies van der Rohe Award in 2019.

The campus is open to walk through. The main auditorium can usually be peeked into when there isn't a lecture in session. There's a small Aalto-designed cafe in the main lobby. The Aalto metro stop puts you at the campus entrance.
