Things to Do

Saariselkä is built for the outdoors. The village exists almost entirely to give travellers a base for the surrounding fells and forests, with the vast Urho Kekkonen National Park right on its doorstep. In winter it pivots to snow — skiing, sledding, husky and reindeer safaris, and the Northern Lights. In summer it becomes a hiking and berry-picking village under the midnight sun.

Most attractions are activities rather than buildings, so plan around the season you visit. The fell-top viewpoints above the village are accessible year-round and worth the climb for the panorama alone.
