Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie

The Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie et du Vin opened in 2022 on the site of the old hospital west of the centre. It is part-museum, part-food-court, part-wine-shop: a permanent exhibition on French food culture and Burgundian wine, a wine school with daily tastings, a cinema, and a "village" of restaurants and food shops including a chocolatier, a baker, and an outpost of the Cordon Bleu cookery school.

The museum is uneven — slick in places, thin in others — but the wine cellar tasting tour is excellent, and the food village makes a good lunchtime stop. About 20 minutes' walk from the Palace of the Dukes, or two stops on tram T1.

A story
The Cité opened in 2022 on the site of a former general hospital. It is the centrepiece of Dijon's claim to be the world capital of the Gastronomic Meal of the French — recognised by UNESCO in 2010 as an item of intangible cultural heritage. Whether or not you buy the framing, the wine cellar of 3,000 bottles is hard to argue with.
