Dijon is pleasant most of the year. The high season is May to September, with long evenings on Place de la Libération and easy day trips into the vineyards. The wine harvest in late September is one of the most atmospheric times to visit — vendangeurs in the villages, lights strung over the cellars, restaurants serving the new vintage.
The Fêtes de la Vigne in early September and the international Gastronomic Fair in early November both fill the city's hotels — book well ahead or shift the dates. Winter is cold and dark but offers low prices and almost no tourist crowds; the Christmas market in the streets around the cathedral runs late November to late December.
