La Cave de la Tour

Address 3 Rue de la Tour, Vieux Nice

La Cave de la Tour is a wine bar in the eastern part of Vieux Nice, close to the port, that does better Provençal wine than almost anywhere else in the old town. The cellar-like interior is cool even in summer; the wine list focuses on the AOC Bellet vineyards that occupy the hills directly above Nice — a tiny appellation producing distinctive whites from the Rolle grape and reds from Braquet and Folle Noire, wines almost impossible to find outside the Alpes-Maritimes.

The staff know what they are talking about, the charcuterie and cheese plates are good, and the vibe is genuinely relaxed. Worth finding specifically to try Bellet wines, which have been grown on these hills since antiquity and deserve more attention than they get.
