Anatomy Museum

Eerie 19th-century anatomy collection inside the Faculty of Medicine

The Musée d'Anatomie occupies the second floor of the Faculty of Medicine and is exactly the sort of museum that scares some visitors and delights others. The collection — much of it 19th-century — fills long galleries with anatomical preparations, deformed skeletons, wax models of internal organs, and several full écorchés (skinless figures) used for teaching surgical students.

The signature piece is a 19th-century plaster écorché holding a shovel, sometimes attributed to the studio of the sculptor Jacques-Eugène Caudron. It is not for the squeamish. Access has historically been restricted (the museum is part of a working teaching school), so check current opening conditions and book in advance.
