La Tour de la Babote is a surviving medieval tower from Montpellier's old ramparts, later adapted as an observatory. It is one of the more visible reminders that the modern city centre grew from a fortified town.
The tower is best treated as a short architectural stop while walking between the station and the old town. Its value is in the layered history: city wall, observatory, and landmark all in one compact building.
